Datsun, which is now known as Nissan, was the first Japanese automobile company. Although Datsun is best known for the 'Z' Car which lived in the Seventies, they created one of the better looking roadster style cars from 1963 to 1970.

The SPL310 Model, also known as the Fairlady 1500, came out in 1963. The convertible has beautiful curves and detailed chrome trim. The early models came equipped with a sideways third seat. In 1965, Datsun upgraded to a 1.6 liter engine and made several design changes. The Datsun 1600 Roadster had 96hp and had a more 'straight' shape than the 1500. The car was upgraded again in 1967, adding a 2 liter. The Datsun 2000 had 135hp, but kept the same shape as the 1600 and was kept in production until 1970.

The best way to get your hands on a Datsun Roadster is to buy one via Ebay or Craigslist. Expect to pay about $5000 for a car in decent condition and at least $8000 for a showroom condition. Choosing to complete a restoration process can be very time consuming and with the Datsun Roadsters, tends to be very expensive. Some parts are hard to find or no longer available.

Getting any mechanical work done to a Datsun can be challenging on Long Island. Many of the people who worked on these cars professionally are now retired and there are not many mechanics now who have experience with these cars. Don't let this get you down though - the Datsun Roadster is a true classic that will turn heads on Long Island!
