Most clubgoers are very familiar with the location that is currently the home of Ice: Cyberia, Sahara – going back to the early '90's as Market Square. Nonetheless, it had gone through many slow periods as it changed hands and changed styles, but the past three years it has been (aside from the summer months when its regulars head east) at its steadiest and classiest.
It's a simple but large room, circular and swathed in whites and lights to match its frozen moniker. The dancefloor is sunk below two tiers and surrounded by three bars, manned by a very attractive bar staff who are accustomed to working a large crowd. Many patrons are intrigued by the club's very visible VIP areas, which do serve as valuable and comfy respites from the surging crowd below.
You'll hear house most of the evening, usually punctuated by a boisterous MC-driven hip-hop set until about 1am. The DJ are mostly well-known Long Island talents, with the occasional NYC import to bring in the strictly dance fans. There are Thursday parties at Ice, but Friday and Saturday, with an emphasis on the latter, really are the main events. Strongly consider the valet to save yourself a walk from a neighboring parking lot, and dress to impress because those who come sloppy go home without entry.
