Few places on Long Island have the reputation and have experienced the longevity of Mulcahy’s in Wantagh. Easily accessible by train as it is right under the Wantagh train station, it has been in business, and very successfully, since the ‘60’s.
Currently open Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, you will find a very large crowd on the weekends, with patrons from Suffolk to Brooklyn engaging in the festivities. The areas top bands, as well as celebrity acts often make their way to the stage at “Mulks”, and local DJ’s also get a chance to spin popular music.
The Friday Happy Hour runs from 3-8 PM, with a solid buffet and two-fers, as well as a multitude of drink specials running as late as 2 AM. The Saturday night party also extends some great deals to the always crowded house. During the football season, Mulcahy’s has a stack of screens, in HDTV no less, invoking the super-sports bars found more often in Florida than on the Island. Tuesday nights, ordinarily the quietest night of the week nightlife-wise, brings you back for the “Winter Weeds” party, going on all season long.
Dress code is casual, but you're better off not testing the doorman with white sneakers, workboots or baggy stuff. The $10 admission fee may seem a tad steep for what is essentially a giant sports bar, but between excellent specials on the libation, and the party crowd that always shows up raring to go, chances are you'll get more than your money's worth.
