
Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park has over 409 acres of greenhouses, lawns, paths and gardens as well as a historic 65 room Tudor mansion. Open for tours from spring through the fall, the grounds include The Italian Blue Pool Garden, Garden Court, The Synoptic Garden with 5 acres of trees and shrubs arranged in alphabetical order, The Camellia House with over 300 plants that bloom from November through March and the Main Greenhouse.
The house, which was designed by New York architectural firm Walker & Gillette and built between 1918 and 1921, is now a museum and used for a variety of events. Planting Fields is a great sight for gardeners, history buffs and designers and is also used for monthy meetings for groups such as the Long Island Bonsai Society, the Long Island Horticulture Society and the North American Rock Garden Society.
